Emerson Building Vertical Expansion

South Shore Hospital
Weymouth, Massachusetts

South Shore Hospital is the largest independently-operated hospital in Eastern Massachusetts. In response to recent growth, South Shore Hospital expanded its facilities to designate new space for surgical, orthopedic, and cancer patients. The existing Emerson building was expanded by 40 feet and was topped with two new vertical stories. TG Gallagher furnished and installed the new HVAC system for the project, which was constructed to LEED specifications. The 66,000 SF addition and renovation required increasing the chilled water plant to 750 tons and installing new air handling equipment in the addition’s penthouse mechanical room. After completing the new structure, phased renovations of the existing occupied facility were carefully planned and completed while working around the ongoing operations of the hospital.
