Marginal Street Residence Hall

University of Massachusetts, Lowell
Lowell, Massachusetts

Located on the banks of the Merrimack River, UMASS Lowell is one of the five campuses of the University of Massachusetts system. The school offers an array of degree programs to its 13,000 full-and part-time undergraduate and graduate students.  To help meet the needs of the university, the school underwent major transformations, including a new 165,000 SF residence hall. This building provides much-needed student housing for the university as the school transitions from a commuter school to a resident-based university. Working as the design-build mechanical contractor, TG Gallagher collaborated closely with the owner, architect, and general contractor to design and install the HVAC and plumbing systems. To keep up with the project’s aggressive schedule, TG Gallagher performed extensive prefabrication and used our Trimble total station to streamline layout and remove coring time from the project by sleeving all pipe penetrations and installing bang-its for the hangers.

Architect: Neshamkin French Architects
Engineer: TG Gallagher (design build)
