Simmons College was the first women’s college in the nation to offer a liberal arts and science education for undergraduates, integrated with professional work experience. The college is comprised of two campuses located in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston. TG Gallagher has worked at both campus locations for more than 20 years providing numerous HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system upgrades and new installations. As part of the campus master plan to ensure the campus is being used in the most efficient and effective manner, Simmons College and Walsh Brothers turned to TG Gallagher to replace 1,200 LF of buried steam line and return condensate piping on the residence campus. The below grade steam/condensate distribution system serves seven residence halls. The project was executed during the summer months, and was completed on a fast track schedule. To accommodate the busy summer programs, construction was implemented in a phased manner. To keep the buildings running during construction, temporary steam service was provided and pedestrian walkways remained open to allow students’ daily comings and goings.
