Law Tower Renovation and Addition

Boston University School of Law
Boston, Massachusetts

For over 140 years BU Law has been known for its renowned faculty and excellence in legal education.  Housed in the tallest law school building in the country, the “tower” has been home to the law school for over half a century.  To ensure the school’s prominence in the future and to meet the needs of emerging teaching methods, the law school teamed up with construction manager Skanska USA Building to construct a new five-story structure located to the west of the Law Tower. Upon completion of the addition, the existing Law Tower interior was renovated with new building systems. Skanska USA Building brought TG Gallagher onboard to install the HVAC systems in both buildings.

In order to stay ahead of the project schedule, sequencing of riser installation was critical to allow for finishes to be installed on adjacent floors. All chill beams and finned tube radiation was assembled at our pre-fab shop for modular style installation in the field. The aggressive pre-fabrication approach ensured the mechanical systems were installed and tested well in advance of the finish trades to maintain the construction schedule.
