Here are a few of our recent projects. (Please check back; we’ll be updating this page with new projects.)

Project: ACS Hope Lodge
Services: HVAC and Fire Protection
Owner: American Cancer Society
Engineer: Cosentini
General Contractor: Bond Brothers
Contract Value: $2.3 Million
Project Duration: 12 Months
LEED: Yes

TG Gallagher was selected to perform HVAC and Fire Protection for the new ACS Hope Lodge in Boston. The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center will annually provide free lodging and support services to more than 1,500 cancer outpatients and their caregivers who must travel far from home for treatment in Boston. The project consists of a new 25,000 sf building and a completely renovated 20,000 sf building for a total of 45,000 sf of living space for cancer patients. This is a LEED project designed to meet the silver medal criteria of the US Green Building Council.
Close coordination with the engineers, commissioning agents and LEED consultants has been required to help value engineer the project to reduce equipment costs. The HVAC scope consists of new heating and cooling systems completed with boilers, air handler, energy recovery units, chillers, and a cooling tower. The fire protection includes a completely new sprinkler system complete with a new water feed, standpipes, and distribution system.

Project: Byerly Hall
Services: HVAC, Plumbing & Fire Protection
Owner: Harvard University
Engineer: Cosentini
General Contractor: Shawmut
Contract Value: $3.1 Million
Project Duration: 9 Months
LEED: Yes

Harvard University’s Byerly Hall, a 43,000 sf facility required a complete new Mechanical System. This work needed to be completed in the span of nine months. The newly renovated building would be outfitted to accommodate the universities staff for office space.
TG Gallagher was contracted by Shawmut Design and Construction to expedite the HVAC, Plumbing and Fire protection for its expertise and its track record of delivering within strict timetables. The project involved working closely with the Mechanical engineer on the systems upgrade due to fact the new HVAC system is based on a geo-thermal system.
As part of the installation, TG Gallagher installed (5) 25 Ton heat pumps that utilized well water as part of the geo-thermal system serving a 4 pipe fan coil system through out. Also as part of the design, existing campus steam serving the area was utilized in the design.
TG Gallagher laid the groundwork for the distribution of ductwork and piping to all floors.
The Plumbing requirements included the installation of new sewage ejector pumps with a complete piping and fixture installation for area bathrooms, showers and water services.
The success of this major upgrade relied heavily on TG Gallagher’s experience in fast track installations. The coordination drawings were produced immediately so as not to delay the start of the installation. This particular project required tight coordination among all major trades for the projects success.

Project: MAH West Wing Expansion
Services: HVAC & Plumbing
Owner: Mt. Auburn Hospital
Engineer: TCI
General Contractor: Walsh Brothers
Contract Value: $11.5 Million
Project Duration: 30 Months
LEED: No

Mount Auburn Hospital, a Cambridge-based teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard University, is in the process of renovating, expanding, and consolidating its patient care facilities and increasing its parking capacity.
In the planning stage of the project, TG Gallagher worked with general contractor Walsh Brothers, Inc., providing pre-construction services for the required mechanical systems. TG Gallagher was selected to install plumbing and HVAC systems for Mount Auburn’s new 120,000 square-foot, seven-story hospital building and new parking garage, and to renovate areas of the existing facility.
The HVAC project includes the installation of two new 90,000 CFM custom air handling units, hundreds of VAV boxes, new oil and exhaust systems for emergency generators, and several other air handling units and fan coils. The plumbing project includes miles of medical gas and plumbing distribution piping throughout the new building and in portions of the existing facility. One of the more challenging aspects of this project is ensuring the seamless integration of the new systems into the existing systems in the hospital’s older buildings.
TG Gallagher’s experience with hospital projects helps us work around patient, visitor and staff activity, which occurs 24 hours a day on the campus. TGG is working with Walsh Brothers to closely coordinate the schedule of work and deliveries, minimizing disruption of hospital activities and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Project completion is scheduled for 2009.

Project: Children’s Museum Renovation and Expansion
Services: HVAC & Fire Protection
Owner: Boston Children's Museum
Engineer: RG Vanderwell
General Contractor: Shawmut
Contract Value: $4.3 Million
Project Duration: 12 Months
LEED: Yes

TG Gallagher was part of the construction team that renovated and expanded the Boston Children’s Museum. The Museum renovated its existing 150,000 square foot building to accommodate a new theater and new exhibition areas. The 23,000 square-foot expansion project was the largest in the Museum’s 93-year history.
TG Gallagher was retained by general contractor Shawmut Design and Construction to renovate the museum’s HVAC and fire protection systems. The project involved incorporating a new HVAC and condensed water system into the existing cooling tower, and installing 36 new high-efficiency heat pumps. A carbon dioxide (CO2) measuring tool was installed to adjust the gallery climate and save energy. TG Gallagher also installed state-of-the-art fire protection sprinkler systems throughout the building.
To accommodate the construction activities, the Museum closed temporarily for about three months, although Museum staff and other tenants of the building continued to operate on the 5th and 6th floors of the building. To minimize disruption to their work environment, TG Gallagher scheduled equipment deliveries and installation activities during off hours.
TG Gallagher is proud to have worked on making the new Boston Children’s Museum a comfortable and safe environment for children and families.
