Thomas G. Gallagher

Mount Auburn Hospital, a Cambridge-based teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard University, is in the process of renovating, expanding, and consolidating its patient care facilities and increasing its parking capacity.

In the planning stage of the project, TG Gallagher worked with general contractor Walsh Brothers, Inc., providing pre-construction services for the required mechanical systems. TG Gallagher was selected to install plumbing and HVAC systems for Mount Auburn's new 120,000 square-foot, seven-story hospital building and new parking garage, and to renovate areas of the existing facility.

The HVAC project includes the installation of two new 90,000 CFM custom air handling units, hundreds of VAV boxes, new oil and exhaust systems for emergency generators, and several other air handling units and fan coils. The plumbing project includes miles of medical gas and plumbing distribution piping throughout the new building and in portions of the existing facility. One of the more challenging aspects of this project is ensuring the seamless integration of the new systems into the existing systems in the hospital's older buildings.

TG Gallagher's experience with hospital projects helps us work around patient, visitor and staff activity, which occurs 24 hours a day on the campus. TGG is working with Walsh Brothers to closely coordinate the schedule of work and deliveries, minimizing disruption of hospital activities and the surrounding neighborhoods.
