Thomas G. Gallagher

TG Gallagher was part of the construction team that renovated and expanded the Boston Children's Museum. The Museum renovated its existing 150,000 square foot building to accommodate a new theater and new exhibition areas. The 23,000 square-foot expansion project was the largest in the Museum's 93-year history.

TG Gallagher was retained by general contractor Shawmut Design and Construction to renovate the museum's HVAC and fire protection systems. The project involved incorporating a new HVAC and condensed water system into the existing cooling tower, and installing 36 new high-efficiency heat pumps. A carbon dioxide (CO2) measuring tool was installed to adjust the gallery climate and save energy. TG Gallagher also installed state-of-the-art fire protection sprinkler systems throughout the building.

To accommodate the construction activities, the Museum closed temporarily for about three months, although Museum staff and other tenants of the building continued to operate on the 5th and 6th floors of the building. To minimize disruption to their work environment, TG Gallagher scheduled equipment deliveries and installation activities during off hours.

TG Gallagher is proud to have worked on making the new Boston Children's Museum a comfortable and safe environment for children and families.
